Many of those projects include gardening & flower beds (like I did here!), but the most overlooked way to boost curb appeal is your garage door. A garage door is a functional asset to your home, but it can also be an overlooked way to charm! Whether your door is wood or metal, old or new, there are some easy steps to enhance the appearance of your garage door– and boost curb appeal!

Painting A Garage Door

Most garage doors come in a standard white, but sometimes adding a pop of color on the door can really make an impact! At Flip 5, the garage door was original from 1951– with flaking paint, visible scratches, and overall dingy appearance. And with all white siding, the garage door really just blended in.

For this project, it cost me $0 to give the existing, old garage door a face lift! I used some leftover paint from the front doors on the Garage Airbnb (pst: I used this kind of paint). I partnered with Wagner and used their FLEXiO 3000 to knock out this project in no time! The most important part of painting a garage door is proper prep work!

• Use Frogtape to tape off the edges of the siding
• Use painter’s masking paper to cover all of the edges from overspray
• Make sure the door is clean & free of dust

Since my garage door has a grid pattern, there are several crevices that could be a pain to paint with a brush. I strongly suggest using a paint sprayer for this project- not only because it makes the painting go faster, but it also makes painting crevices a much easier process! The first coat took approximately 15 minutes and after it dried, I added a 2nd coat. From start to finish, I had the garage door painted & usable in less than an hour!

Adding Garage Door Hardware

I have always loved the look of carriage house garage doors. Whether you opt to paint your garage door or not, a very simple way to enhance the garage door appearance is through hardware. If you are lucky enough to have a metal garage door, adding hardware doesn’t require any tools! Stores like Home Depot sell garage door hardware kits that are either magnetic or can be easily screwed into a wood door.

I wasn’t able to add hardware to the garage door at Flip 5 because of the size of the grids (the hardware didn’t fit), but the garage door at Flip 6 worked! I used a magnetic hardware kit that stuck right to the metal garage door! A quick & easy update!

Combined with the right kind of paint and the FLEXiO 3000, the end result is a smooth and even finish. This was such a fast & beginner-friendly project, and I love the dramatic impact! Tackle boosting your curb appeal by easily giving your garage door a face lift!
