Since I purchased Flip 5, I have been feverishly updating the interior. From the kitchen remodel, the sunroom revamp, and decorating this beautiful mid-century home, just about every square inch of the inside of this home has received some love. Now that I have mostly completed the interior of the home, it’s time to tackle all the exterior curb appeal projects! I started earlier this year with a Home Depot sponsored project which helped me to drastically makeover the Garage Airbnb exterior. But I still have several outdoor projects left on the agenda! I’m partnering with the makers of Off!® & Home Depot to get a jumpstart on the curb appeal projects at Flip 5!
Tackling Summer Curb Appeal Projects with Off!® Products And Home Depot
My initial project was to finally tame the front flower beds that were overgrown with weeds, dying plants, and decayed mulch. I wanted to add vibrant colors and charm to my exterior. As a Realtor, I can tell you that paint & curb appeal are the two biggest bangs for your buck on your home. While remodeling the interior, I had neglected the curb appeal but I’m so excited to overhaul it this summer! I was able to pick up all my supplies at Home Depot’s nursery.
Flower Bed Must-Haves
My must-haves that I picked up to overhaul the flower beds:
- Garden gloves
- Weed barrier
- Black mulch
- Perennial lilies
- Annual pink vinca
- Adjustable spray hose nozzle
- And most importantly, Off! Deep Woods® Bug Spray
Tips for Updating Your Curb Appeal
Before I planted any flowers, I took the time to weed the entire flower bed. This is an important step to keep the flower beds looking clean & fresh all summer! I removed dying plants and created a clean surface to add more landscaping. Using weed barrier from Home Depot, I prepared the area for sun-loving pink Vinca flowers. It’s important to read plant labels to make sure you’re planting flowers & shrubs in appropriate places. After I planted several rows of flowers, I finished off the flower bed with black mulch from Home Depot.
While the warm temps and long days of summer are inviting to tackle outdoor curb appeal projects, pests like mosquitoes, ticks, & my most hated- chiggers, often prevent many of these projects from getting completed. If you’ve ever been eaten up with chigger bites (the worst!) or mosquito bites, you know how uncomfortable they are. But more than that, these mosquitoes may carry Zika virus or West Nile Virus. I’ve had my fair share of insect bites, and that’s why I wanted to avoid that annoyance as I started the curb appeal overhaul for Flip 5.
Off! Deep Woods® Bug Spray To The Rescue
During this entire flower bed project, I was outside for hours. There’s one thing about Arkansas summers that is important to understand: if you’re outside, you’ll get eaten up with mosquitoes & other bugs…unless you use a serious bug repellent. And if you’ve had ticks or chigger bites, you know not all bug repellents are created equal! Before I started working on the flower beds, I used Off! Deep Woods® Bug Spray. I didn’t have to reapply since it lasts for hours- even while working on hot, sweaty projects! By the end of the several hours of working outside on the curb appeal projects- including crawling in the grass to weed the flower beds- I didn’t have a single bug bite or tick on me. Knowing I can work outside and avoid all the mosquito or chigger bites, or the ticks crawling on me, makes me excited to finish tackling these outdoor projects this summer!
One of my favorite ways to update a home- whether you’re planning to sell or not- is to refresh the curb appeal projects. Summer is a great time to tackle these projects: flower beds, DIY shutters, power washing siding, replacing worn mailboxes and all the other projects on your to-do list. For me, it’s important to protect myself and prevent West Nile Virus or Zika and from bug bites. Before you tackle your outdoor project this summer, generously apply Off! Deep Woods® bug spray, an affordable & effective way to prevent bug bites!
