Manic Mondays: 5 Minute Fixes

You’re busy. I’m busy. We are all busy!

In the spirit of that, I thought a new series would help us keep up with “joys” of home ownership. We tend to let certain things slide and put off because “I’ll get to it one day.” As a Realtor, I see regularly these little things add up to numerous to-do items! So each Monday, I’ll be highlighting several 5 minute fixes that even on a manic Monday (or Thursday…), we can all check off an item on the to do list!

For this week’s 5 minute fix, you may have seen it around the blog before. Because honestly it’s worth sharing and resharing. Most people I know don’t even know it exists!

To state what I’ve stated 391 times before, I don’t touch electrical in my flips. For safety and liability reasons, I always hire an electrician. And every single house I bought has come equipped with “smoker white” outlets. With fresh white trim and freshly painted walls, those dirty bone colored outlets stick out like a sore thumb.

Even switching out the face plate doesn’t fix the problem. While a new face plate would provide a crisp white new cover, the gross smoker white electrical outlet would still show through. The smoker white outlet with white face plate would look tacky! I know most people would probably assume electrical work is needed to replace the actual outlet with a new white one. WRONG!

The same ugly outlet can be transformed in mere seconds….without a lick of electrical work! Revive outlet covers allow you to cover the entire outlet and add a face plate while masking the old outlet. The outlet cover doesn’t have the two holes open for the existing outlet to show through. Instead, it only has the tiny prong openings and covers the actual outlet. It’s one piece that gives the appearance of a new outlet and cover without touching any electrical work! These outlet covers can be purchased at Lowe’s or online. Not only is this an extremely fast update, it’s very affordable! Each cover cost less than $2.
