Manic Mondays: 5 Minute Fix

You’re busy. I’m busy. We are all busy!

In the spirit of that, I thought a new series would help us keep up with “joys” of home ownership. We tend to let certain things slide and put off because “I’ll get to it one day.” As a Realtor, I see regularly these little things add up to numerous to-do items! So each Monday, I’ll be highlighting several 5 minute fixes that even on a manic Monday (or Thursday…), we can all check off an item on the to do list!

In prepping to list Flip 3, I’ve been tackling some of these easy 5 minute fixes. And, honestly, I should have tackled these sooner rather than just putting them off!

The shower head in the green bathroom was original. The stream was more like a trickle. It had one option: trickle. For my own convenience and also for selling reasons, I wanted to switch it out with an upgraded one. The very first repair I ever did on Flip 1 was switching out a drain in the shower, so I figured a shower head couldn’t be anymore difficult. And I was right!

Using a pair of vice grips, I loosed the existing shower head (which took all of 30 seconds). I found a 10 level, massaging (and rain head!) shower head on clearance at Lowe’s for $15, so obviously I snatched it right up!

Installing the new shower head was so easy! It came with plumbers tape (not all do, so check before you leave the store to see if you need to buy some!), so I wrapped the existing pipe with the tape, and then I screwed on the new shower head. I used my vice grips to make sure it was on really tightly.

From start to finish, I was done in probably less than five minutes. Whether you’re selling your house or not, if you have one of those awful shower heads, this is the easiest DIY upgrade…you can even do it during commercials of your show (wait, maybe that’s just me and how I like to gauge projects!).

Join me next week…I’ll feature another 5 minute easy fix!

  1. Hahahahaha – love implementing tv commercial breaks as a ‘timer’ for the project ! Looking forward to seeing more of these postings – quick, easy and wallet-friendly fixes are always appreciated !

  2. Thank you for this new section on five minute fixes. I love it and will check back regularly. As I am slowly redoing my own home, and having few skills in the home improvement area, I want things like this that I can accomplish. Several small successes may give me the courage to tackle the kitchen backsplash!
