A Rookie Real Estate Agent Belief System:
.
➡️I need to work 24/7
.
➡️I have to accept every client
.
➡️The other agents are my enemies
.
➡️Every human I meet is a possible paycheck
.
A SEASONED REAL ESTATE AGENT BELIEF SYSTEM:
.
➡️Setting office hours & creating a defined shut-off time is essential
.
➡️It’s okay to not accept every person that needs an agent. Some people are so demanding, demeaning & rude that no paycheck is worth it.
.
➡️The other agent is working towards the same goal: closing table. By viewing them as the enemy, you’re creating unnecessary hurdles.
.
➡️Every human I meet is a human. End of story. They deserve to be valued, treated, & respected as a human- not a means to a lead or a paycheck.
.
.
If you’re new & you’re knee-deep in that “gotta hustle” and desperate for leads, evaluate your belief system.
.
.
If you’re a seasoned agent, what would YOU add to those belief systems?

How it all started...FLIP 1.
.
I don’t talk a lot about this one. I didn’t really take pictures of it. I didn’t intend to flip it.
.
I barely scraped together enough money to buy this $75,000 fixer upper...with no clue what I was doing.

Whew, but am I grateful for this house. And not just the financial impact it had on my life.

This house was therapy for me. I was emerging from my 20s— which were NOT kind to me. I was broke. I was drowning in debt. I was still completely raw from the most horrendous break-up I’ve ever experienced. I had no confidence.
.
But this house- it changed me.

I spent my nights alone busting up tile. I learned to live with nothing. I discovered my strength, my talent— and my passion.
.
In the 2 years I lived there, this house breathed life into me. When I look back at my life— in a totally different & better place now— I’m grateful for how the dominos have fallen. I’m still stunned how quickly my life took off.
.
So all that to say- if you’re in the belly of the beast right now with no hope of it getting better:
.

Not what most investors do, admittedly. But I have good reasons for it!

Not only am I sharing what those reasons are, but I’m sharing the 5 things that were on my wish list for a rental.

And SPOILER: I got all 5!

If I had a dime for every time I’ve uttered those words the last year my new house would be paid for...especially during this custom home building journey.
.
We were SUPPOSED to break ground in November. It’s January. Not a single bit of dirt has been moved 🤦‍♀️.
.
When you buy a spec house, you’re blissfully unaware of the numerous hurdles it took to get to the breaking ground process.
.
Many of the delays are outside my control (except that 2 week delay where I couldn’t decide where I wanted a door 😬).
.
BUT we finally have clearance to break ground, & we’re now shooting for the beginning of February!
.
.

I did something I’ve never done before:

This week I went an entire day without checking my email.
.
That may not sound like a big deal— but in this industry it is!
.
As an agent, it’s easy to work 24/7. It’s tempting to ALWAYS be available. It’s scary to be inaccessible. We are constantly on our phones texting another agent, speaking with our clients or responding to an email.
.
Our livelihoods depend on us being there for our clients.
.
But a staggering 87% (😳) of real estate agents fail & leave the profession in the first 5 years.
.
There are a lot of factors that contribute to that stat, but burnout is one. I respect the hustle mentality. I won’t ever fault an agent for working.
.
But just a reminder: YOU & I ARE HUMANS. If we don’t prioritize a work-life balance, it won’t ever happen!
.
.
Spoiler: The world didn’t end because I responded 24 hours later to my emails.
